Il tema del cambiamento mi è sempre stato molto caro, specie quando declinato nei meccanismi che agiscono sulla forma e sulla sostanza dell' "io". Il cambiamento proposto da Florence in Rabbit Heart è visto non già in un'accezione totalmente negativa e desolante, quanto piuttosto in un complesso di eventi non passivamente fruiti dal soggetto ma anzi coscientemente assecondati e digeriti. Versi come "And in the spring I shed my skin/And it blows away with the changing wind" comunicano inoltre una certa ineluttabilità del fluire, scadenzato dall'alternarsi delle stagioni. Questo contesto prepara il terreno per un altrettanto inevitabile sacrificio, atteso in un clima celebrativo e gioioso e non, come si potrebbe presupporre, sotto l'ombra di presagi nefasti.

"This is a gift, it comes with a price" sembra alludere esplicitamente ad un prezzo da pagare per lo sblocco di una seconda possibilità, di un secondo percorso, forse inizialmente non battuto ma da intendersi come un regalo, un'opportunità di miglioramento e progresso individuale, alla stregua di una rinascita interiore. E' in questo solco che è probabilmente da ricercarsi la cifra poetica di questo componimento che inneggia ad un moto di rivalsa del soggetto che si fa dunque protagonista e regista nel film delle sue scelte. "Rabbit heart" sembra esorcizzare l'attesa spasmodica proponendo una visione positiva e progressiva dell'imminente cambiamento. Il cerimoniale che preclude ad un non meglio definito "sacrificio", è pieno di gioia e un clima festoso fa da cornice ad una meravigliosa atmosfera onirica.
